As a child, like many others, I loved the outdoors, and naturally was drawn to knives and their use as that quintessential piece of outdoor gear that they are. But I wasn't just interested in them as commonplace tools, I loved their shapes, their historical use, their designs and their comforting weight in my hands. My Dad's Sheffield Hunting knife with a layered leather handle was the first knife I wished was mine, and I remember buying my first Canadian made Grohmann knife, which years later lead me on to multiple Swiss Army knives, The big British names of A. Wright and Sons, George Wolstenholme, Joseph Rodgers, the classic German knives of Solingen, the American names of Camillus, Case, Queen, and many many more (and that's not even mentioning the Japanese kitchen knife obsession that still continues).
It wasn't until my early 30's that I became serious about making knives. At first just for friends and family, then for a time pumping out dozens of knives wholesale a week until moving into more specialized kitchen knives and rustic camping knives. Under the company name Helve Haft & Handle I was selling them in the Greater Toronto Area, across Canada and the USA, and overseas with knives going as far away as Australia and South Africa.
And like everything in life, things change and take new shapes, and so did my interest and approach to knifemaking. I wanted to try something different and so following my Family's relocation to Prince Albert Ontario, I decided to focus entirely on producing my spin on traditional styles of the beloved folding pocket knife... leading me to officially open S.F. Fisher Pocket Cutlery as an on-line venue for my new limited releases.
It is my hope that you too will enjoy these knives for their designs, handle materials, and that comforting feeling of their weight in your hands....
